Welcome to Home Anchor Following Seas
Hi, I’m Elizebeth and I want to welcome you home! I’m so glad you are here.
While Home Anchor Following Seas has a lot for military families, many of the posts are also for anyone – civilian families, single parents, newlyweds, and anyone who may find themselves in a long distance relationship.
I want you to know that you are welcome whether you are a girlfriend, fiancé, or already a military spouse. You may have already found this life is exciting at times but difficult too. Come on in, sit a spell with me and let’s talk.
Why Home Anchor Following Seas?
So are you trying to make sense of the ever-changing things that happen in our crazy military lives? Do you want to make the most of your family time and where you are stationed but aren’t sure where to start? Are there some days you are just wondering how to have balance in your relationships and home?
You’ve come to the right place and I’m looking forward to getting to know you better!
What’s in a name? Names are super important and can have special meanings. So why did you choose the blog name you did? I’m so glad you asked!
You know, our homes are like an anchor for our military members to come back to after periods of being absent. They are the one place that is steady in an ever-changing world.
We as spouses always want things to go as smoothly as possible. Not only on the home front, but also while our military member is away. So the following seas is a Navy term that means the seas ahead will be smooth for sailing.
However, sometimes those seas get choppy and we need someone that gets us. That’s where this blog comes in! I get you and what you’re going through!
As we embark on this journey together you’ll find many resources and blog posts to help you navigate the different periods of military life you will encounter. You will also find solace and comfort in knowing you are not alone.
I’ll share my knowledge from over thirty years of being a girlfriend, a fiancé to a military spouse, to being divorced, and then back to a military spouse! Yep, I have a thing for a man in uniform…I’ll just get that out there right now!
You’re Not Alone
For those of you who are young and just starting out, you may be thinking – “You’re old and don’t understand what it’s like now.” Well, I am older, but I won’t admit to being old! However, I am experiencing military life today as you are, but with the wisdom of knowing what it’s like already. While technology may change the way we do some things, the military as a whole is an old system which hasn’t changed all that much. There’s that ‘old’ word again!
One of the things I know for sure that has not changed is our military members deploying. I know you have heard the rumor that the ship [or enter any deployed unit] is coming home [insert any day/month] only to find out they have been extended! Oh, and let’s not forget the emotions that go along with that news – can we say “roller coaster!”
But even with all the things that are difficult, there is a sunrise on the horizon which sheds light on the many opportunities we wouldn’t have experienced or known before. My mission is to help you see these moments in a fresh light in the midst of hardship. Maybe even help you find a new enthusiasm to strengthen your marriage or connect with new friends. Or spark a desire to explore your surroundings at your duty station. Regardless of why you’re here, I hope to make your journey easier.
About Me
I’m a southern girl who married a northern Midwestern guy. We didn’t meet in college as I attended school in the south and he joined the Navy. So now you’re wondering how in the world we met…you can read the rest of the story here.
I’m a former educator with a lifelong passion for encouraging, teaching, and supporting others. This is why I started this blog. After my retirement from education, I just couldn’t sit around and do nothing…I needed and wanted to tap into another passion of mine – you, the military spouse.
I enjoy sharing our experiences with parenting, friendships, military life and of course our travel adventures with the hope to inspire and help others.
I’ve had the opportunity to visit five of the seven continents. Yet I have many more places on my bucket list to see, as well as at least one more continent. I’m not digging the thought of going to Antarctica, to be honest, so that one is not on the list much to the disappointment of my husband!
We have four adult children between the two of us and three grandchildren. We love to spend time with them when we can. Might I add that none of them are in the same place except our youngest who is currently still with us. I can see empty nesting on the horizon though!
Our only son has joined the Navy and carrying on the ‘family business,’ so we are looking forward to visiting him and his wife in fun places too!
I look forward to connecting with you! Please subscribe to join me as we navigate military life together. You will get updates on new posts and I’ll be sending some special content from time to time. You can also connect with me on Facebook @Home Anchor Following Seas.
